Pediatric Surgery

When your child is in need of surgery, we are the place to be. Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital provides dedicated, specially trained and compassionate surgery teams ready to care for your child whether it’s a planned surgery or an unexpected procedure. With dedicated pediatric operating and recovery rooms, our hospital offers state-of-the-art surgical care, including minimally invasive and robotic procedures. Our surgeons are specifically trained in pediatrics, and with the largest child life specialist team in Louisiana, we are here to make this process as smooth as possible.

Pre-Surgery Testing and Consultation

At Our Lady of the Lake Children's Health, we do our best to alleviate as much tension for our young patients as possible. When we inform a child and family that a surgery will be needed, we try to schedule pre-surgery consults for the same day.

Appointments are not necessary. Your child will also meet with a member of the surgical department in scrubs so he/she will become familiar and comfortable in a surgical environment.

For your convenience the Pre-Admission and Registration Center (PARC) is open 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

At this visit you will:

  • Complete any lab work and diagnostic testing
  • Update your child's current medical history
  • Receive education about your child's procedure
  • Discuss any discharge needs with the nurse
  • Have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns
  • Begin the registration process

Please read Preparing Your Child for Surgery

If you are unable to visit the PARC, our admissions staff will attempt to contact you by phone regarding your child's admission to the hospital and to verify information.

The Admissions Department can be reached at (225) 765-8899.

Robotic Surgery

We also are one of the first hospitals in Louisiana to offer pediatric robotic surgery. Robotic surgery, or robot-assisted surgery, allows our surgeons to perform many types of complex procedures with more precision, flexibility and control than is possible with conventional techniques. Robotic surgery is an advanced form of minimally invasive or laparoscopic (small incision) surgery where surgeons use a computer-controlled robot to assist them in certain surgical procedures.
