In 2011, Our Lady of the Lake was awarded a competitive five year grant by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to create a pediatric primary care track with in the Our Lady of the Lake Pediatric Residency Program. The Pediatric Primary Care Track is the only such program in the state and one of only five HRSA – funded primary care programs around the country. With the groundwork lain and the grant completed, more flexibility allows us to grow our curriculum to include ambulatory subspecialty enrichment and recruitment of new site opportunities.
Since its creation in 2011, the Primary Care Track has graduated initially two and now is ACGME approved for three residents per year whose training has uniquely prepare them to become exemplary primary care pediatricians as well as community leaders. Moving forward, the Primary Care Track Program will have a formative roll in engaging our pediatric community around or freestanding children's hospital planning to open in 2018.
