Pediatric Intensive Care Unit:

Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 14-bed unit staffed 24/7 by specially trained pediatric critical care physicians and nurses who provide care and management of critically ill patients ranging in age from infancy to young adulthood. The PICU at Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital is one of Louisiana's largest and serves patients from around the Baton Rouge region and the state.

With more than 14 subspecialties available, including pediatric cardiology, gastroenterology and nephrology, our hospital provides all of the pediatric services you need to receive high quality medical attention for your child.

Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital is committed to keeping up with cutting edge technology to improve patient care, from our pediatric vein viewer to Computer Physician Order Entry (CPOE) system, computer-assisted IV and Syringe pumps that block dosage errors, and our leading three ID System for patient identification, we are always seeking to improve efficiency and health and medication safety, therein reducing medical errors.

Referring a Patient to Our Lady of the Lake's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

To refer a patient or consult with a physician, please call  225-765-8842.

Patients are referred to us directly. You may call us to speak with one of our bed coordinators or a 24/7 Pediatric Intensivist who can assess the patient's condition and arrange appropriate patient transport. Our Hospitalists will act as a bridge to referring primary care pediatric doctors and send a full report on the patient's condition and treatment plan.

Visiting Hours

Our hospital is family focused and dedicated to making patient care easier on the whole family. We offer a unique two plus two visitation policy. Parents or guardians and two additional visitors may remain at the patient's bedside at any time except during change of shift. To offer your child and family as much privacy as possible, all our patient beds are located in individual bays.
